    Jennifer Caughey resigned from the Board effective December 31, 2024.  She was recently elected to serve as a justice on the First Court of Appeals in Houston.  We thank Ms. Caughey for her dedicated service on the Board.

    The Supreme Court will appoint a new Board member to fill the unexpired term vacated by Ms. Caughey.

    On September 24, 2024, the Supreme Court of Texas issued an order approving amendments to the Board of Disciplinary Appeals Internal Procedural Rules.  In addition, by order of the Court, on October 1, 2024, amendments to the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct and the Texas Rules of Disciplinary Procedure became effective.  Updated versions of these Rules can be found on our Rules page https://txboda.org/rules.

    The Supreme Court of Texas appointed Fernando Bustos of Lubbock, Woody Halstead of San Antonio and Robert Henneke of Port Aransas to the Board of Disciplinary Appeals on August 23, 2024.  Members Jason Boatright of Dallas, David Iglesias of Tyler and W.C. Kirkendall from Seguin were reappointed to a second 3 year term.  All terms began September 1, 2024.

    The Supreme Court of Texas appointed Scott A. Fredricks of Fort Worth to the Board of Disciplinary Appeals on April 16, 2024.  

    Outgoing member Bill Ogden devoted years of hard work to the attorney grievance system.  We sincerely thank Bill for his work on the Board.

    The Supreme Court of Texas appointed Hon. Melissa Goodwin of Austin, and reappointed Courtney Schmitz of McKinney, to the Board of Disciplinary Appeals on October 2, 2023.  Both terms are effective immediately.

    Outgoing member Rudy Metayer devoted years of hard work to the attorney grievance system.  Words cannot express our sincere appreciation for his dedication.

    The Texas Legislature has authorized attorneys against whom a grievance was filed to appeal the classification of the grievance to the Board of Disciplinary Appeals.  This change applies to grievances filed after September 1, 2023.

    The Board has proposed amendments to its Internal Procedural Rules to implement this change, and the Supreme Court of Texas is considering the proposal.

    Rudy K. Metayer’s term as a member of the Board expired on Friday, June 23, 2023, pursuant to Texas Rule of Disciplinary Procedure 7.01, as he was sworn in as a Representative of District 9 on the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors.  The Board congratulates Rudy on his election to the Board of Directors and thanks him for his tireless service to BODA, the Bar, and the legal profession.

    Except when a notice of hearing or order of the Board states otherwise, all proceedings before the Board of Disciplinary Proceedings shall be conducted in the courtroom of the Supreme Court of Texas, in Austin.  Parties and counsel should expect to appear in person to participate in hearings.
