In the Matter of Erik James Burris

On Jan. 26, 2018, the Board of Disciplinary Appeals signed an interlocutory order of suspension against San Diego, CA attorney Erik James Burris, 42, State Bar of Texas Card No. 24061360. On December 16, 2015, Maj. Burris was found guilty of assault, rape, sexual assault and other sexual misconduct, and sodomy in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Intentional Crimes as defined in the Texas Rules of Disciplinary Procedure, by General Court-Martial Order Number 10 and was dismissed from the service, confined for 20 years and ordered to forfeit all pay and allowances (The forfeiture was waived for six months and the money paid to Burris’ dependent children.) Burris has appealed his criminal conviction to the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. The Board retains jurisdiction to enter a final judgment when the criminal appeal is final.
